In ’10 babywearing questions to’ we ask parents 10 questions about babywearing. This time the lovely mama Ruth.

32 year old Ruth is mother of thee beautiful children and married to Hans. Ruth and Hans run their own webshop Kukeluusje.com. A webshop with gorgeous products for your home interior, baby’s room and toys for little children.

How did you start babywearing,  or who made you enthusiastic to carry your own child in a babywrap or baby carrier?

My sister in law is a mother of four. She carried her youngest girl a lot and is super enthusiastic about babywearing. When my daughter Lauren was born, i choose a babywrap as a maternity present.

Did you start babywearing immediately after birth?

Both of my thee kids are carried directly after birth. And not only me, also my husbands loves to carry the kids and keeping them close.

Wearing your child for practical reasons or for social and emotional reasons?

Both! When i got my youngest child, the practical reasons played a big part to run the household, but keeping my baby’s close and giving them comfort is the most important reasons.

Carrying with a babywrap or baby carrier?

In the first weeks, when your baby is so little i prefer to use a stretchy wrap. And when my children got bigger i used the woven wrap and the baby carrier. The babycarrier is very practical and easy to use.

When do you experience the benefits of babywearing the most?

The the newborn/baby- time i just loved to keep my baby’s close and to have them sleep and cuddle around me. My baby’s loved to sleep in the carriers. And with 2 older kids and a young baby, babywearing also had a positive effect on the bonding process.

Do you have a partner, grandpa, grandpa, babysitter that also wears your child?

My partner wears a lot! Grandma tried babywearing but preferred the stroller, which is absolutely fine.

What are your favorite places to go to with your children?

Going to the forrest or beach is so nice. Having a great walk, fresh air and wind trough our hairs. These places are not ideal with a stroller, but perfect to go to with the babycarrier. Also grocery shoppings are easy while using the carrier. We go on the bike with my little one in the front seat and the carrier in my bag. When we arrive my little one goes into the carrier, we are buying the grocery’s and after that we are biking back home.

What is your most beautiful, nicest or funniest babywearing moment?

I don’t have one special moment. The most beautiful feeling is the feeling that my little one can completely relax and find peace and comfort in the carrier close to me.

Do you ever had an embarrassing moment while carrying?

A spray diaper in the carrier and don’t have another carrier with me or the stroller. Well i can say have trained my arms a lot while walking home with the dirty kid, lol !

Do you have babywearing tips for other parent (to be)?

1. Let you inform, try out and see what fits you and your baby the most. I love stretchy wraps for a newborn, but other parents might love a woven wrap or babycarrier!
2. Don’t give up to fast. I heard a lot parents say that the tried out babywearing for a week and when it didn’t work they gave up. I can understand that babywearing is not alway easy with a newborn, and you can get unsecure about yourself. Wait a little and try it again when your baby is a bit bigger and you are more secure about yourself. Or go to a babywearing consultant.
3. Don’t get fooled by expensive brands. They are probably beautiful, but it doesn’t mean that they are better than less expensive brands. There are babycarriers available for a small budget. You can also rent or borrow a wrap or carrier to try out if babywearing is something for you.
